3D Stereo Picture of Jupiter w/ Double Shadow Transit
AUG 10, 2010
On March 29, 2004, Bob Vanderbei imaged Jupiter as its moons Io and
Europa passed across its face. From a sequence of images taken with his
3.5" Questar at 8
minute intervals he was able to create a 3D stereo image of this event.
The black spots are the shadows cast by the two moons---an observer from
within either of those spots would have witnessed a total solar eclipse.
